Matchstick Percussion is a Maryland-based percussion quartet dedicated to new music and contributing to growing the percussion repertoire. We believe in helping to build equitable and diverse relations within the music community, and in time we look to help set the precedent of modern percussion repertoire.
Our mission is to:
Bridge the gap in racial and gender inconsistencies and advocate for equity in musical and arts professions
Provide resources to gain access to new music and gain an understanding of the inequity in the field
Collaborate with artists of other mediums to create new and exciting experiences for our audience
Promote opportunities for underrepresented artists and artists lacking favorable circumstances
Ben Hausman (they/him) is constantly plugged in. With a strong draw to composing and electroacoustic music, Ben is always curious to find new sounds whether it be through non-musical objects or synthesized sounds. Outside of music, they enjoy tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Ten Candles, and Gloomhaven, as well as other creative platforms such as filmmaking, painting, and creative storytelling. Ben is pursuing their Masters of Music from the University of Delaware.
Corey Sittinger (he/him) specializes in multi-percussion having performed large-scale pieces such as I-Ching. He has a strong affinity for chamber repertoire and also loves to perform behind the marimba. He competes in triathlon, currently working towards becoming an ironman, and enjoys writing poetry. Corey received his Masters of Music from the University of Maryland.
Malcolm Taylor (he/him) has an affinity for drum set, theatrical percussion, and chamber music. He enjoys cooking (and related videos), exploring computers and electronics, and spending time with his fiance, Jacqui, and their cats: Pepper, Adrina, and Peanut. Malcolm is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at George Mason University.
Zachary Bud Wilson (he/him) grew up as a drum set player and now specializes in vibraphone and other keyboard instruments. He loves history, tea, and spending time with his cat in Chesapeake Beach, MD. Zach is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
