Crater and the Catalyst was born from the musical passion and fervor of high school friends Tommy Gargiulo and Carter Freije in State College, PA. Since 2013, the band has played countless venues locally and throughout the northeast after releasing their first EP, “The End Line”. Led by the creative vision of Tommy Gargiulo (guitarist/vocals), the group’s lineup has undergone a variety of permutations, currently including Huck Tritsch (drums), Jon Spearly (bass), and Nicole Gargiulo (vocals), and a series of friends and collaborators that sit in with the group on many occasions. Though much has changed regarding the band over the past decade, Crater’s creative fire has consistently raged on with intense purpose. Whether live or in the studio, their musical chemistry is a steamrolling force of nature that is sure to captivate. 

Instilled with the raw passionate energy of early punk, paired with virtuosic undertones of jazz and progressive rock, Crater and The Catalyst will take you on a genre-bending escapade to lands previously uncharted. Their most recent album, 2021’s “The Forefront of Nothing in Particular”, showcases a diverse soundscape of swirling, cutthroat guitar and bass work, angelic vocal melodies, and thundering drums that will blow your hair back. The group is currently planning a plethora of regional tour dates, while simultaneously working on an exciting new follow-up album.
