Sneeze Awfull first started collaborating together in 2018 when they were hired to do the soundtrack of a low-budget horror movie being filmed in a series of overgrown industry remnants found deep in the woods surrounding Pittsburgh. The movie was to be called, ‘XXXX’ and was considered to be an Appalachian homage to both ‘The Hidden’ and ‘Hellraiser 2’.

While none of the members knew each other before this project, the director had encouraged them to gather samples and compose on site, often leaving them alone overnight deep within some abandoned concrete storage container with nothing but a generator, their musical equipment, and some flashlights. Through the sheer terror and excitement of these experiences they quickly formed a strong bond both musically and personally that endures to this day.

Although the trio finished the score, the movie was never completed. The production was abruptly halted due to a sudden shift in investor sentiment.

Since it seemed like a shame to let the product of such a beautiful friendship go to waste, they decided to officially start a band together, picking the name from something written on one of the members’ dating profiles and retooling much of the material from the movie into what eventually became their self-titled EP and their upcoming release ‘Exercise #1’.

In its most stable form Sneeze Awfull has Hunter on vocals, Ricki on the cello, and JF playing beats/samples and synthesizer.

Their music has been described as walking the fine line between experimental music and bubble-gum pop, instilling the corporeal warmth and recognition associated with dance music within the chaotic shell of a noisy metropolis intersection.
