Moth Bucket is an experimental trio from central Pennsylvania consisting of Kevin Sims, James Searfoss, and Justin Dorsey. Started in 2015 by Sims and Searfoss and later bolstered by the addition of Dorsey's bass, the group's music sways between drone, free jazz, and electro-acoustic improv. Homemade instruments and tape collage techniques combine with sax, drums & bass free jazz blowouts to create a layered and shifting approach to experimental music and improvisation. Drawing equal inspiration from the likes of Pauline Oliveros, Sun Ra, and Wolf Eyes, Moth Bucket's music contains a controlled and structured tension while still leaning on an improvisational mindset and approach.
